Intergovernmental Council Continues Discussion On Committee Restructuring Fri, 02 May 2008 3:38:00 It was all about Committees at Thursdays Alpena Intergovernmental Council meeting yesterday (Thursday). The Council heard an update and recommendations from their Communications Committee about committee restructuring. Communications rep. and Alpena Mayor Carol Shafto mentioned so far a Drainage Committee was disbanded because it was formed for one purpose only, which is now done... and that an Economic Development Committee went away because it was felt it was a repeat of Target Alpena and therefore not necessary. The Council talked about whether or not to have a Planning Committee. Alpena County Commissioners Chair Cameron Habermehl felt that Committee was similar to an Alpena County group and not needed. Commissioner Tom Mullaney and Green Township Supervisor Eric Smith agreed. Alpena Township Supervisor Marie Twite felt there was an advantage to such a committee, as all stakeholders are present. The group also discussed Committee make-up.... such as how many seats should a Committee have, what representative should hold that seat, who votes, and how are recommendations made to the Intergovernmental Council. In conclusion, the Communications committee recommended that present Committees meet to discuss their structure before the next Intergovernmental Council meeting on September 4th in Ossineke Township. The Committee Chair would then report back to the Council and receive feedback... the Council having the final approval of committee structures. |
