Rogers City Nearing End Of Budget Year

Rogers City Manager Mark Slown is calling the budget process "a lot of work."

City Council met in workshop session on Wednesday to talk numbers.

Working towards a balance of one-million-877-thousand dollars, the City is proposing 130-thousand in cuts. No personnel cuts are being proposed, but Slown mentioned there's possibility of reductions in travel and training expenses, department spending, and up to four-dollar increases each for monthly water and sewer payments.

Slown attributed proposed cuts to many factors, like decreased revenue sharing, and area houses under pressure for valuation in property taxes. On a positive note, Slown mentioned the City plans to reduce City taxes by one mill, or about 68-thousand dollars. He noted the City is making good on a previous agreement.... explaining that the fire department is now funded through a joint Authority board, who passed a one mill referendum to do so.

The Proposed budget will be presented to the public at the next City Council meeting. The budget must be finalized by the end of May, and submitted to the State. The City's budget year is July 1st to June 30th.
