It was in 1991 when Conrad started his popular weekly outdoor show on WATZ. He could no doubt write a book on local outdoor activities and experiences, since his involvement with the great outdoors is so extensive. His interest's range from quad runners, to squirrels. "Anything that there is a license for in this State, I'm involved" he says.

Bruski is also a member of numerous organizations, ranging from the Alpena Sportsman Club, to the Michigan United Conservation Club, and frequently attends area outdoor related functions and activities.

"Hopefully, everyone likes what they hear, and finds the program informative and entertaining. But there's one thing I should clear up right now... I do not own or wear plaid waders.... no matter what Steve says !"

Section of Kalkaska ATV Trail temporarily closed due to logging operation - Department of Natural Resource officials announced today that a short section of the Kalkaska ATV Trail, located in northeastern Kalkaska County, will be temporarily closed due to salvage logging operations. The closed section of trail will be located between County Road 612 and Merita Lane. The temporary closure will be identified on the DNR's internet trail map, and the temporary reroute will be signed on the ground. The trail is expected to remain closed for approximately two months.
DNR's Western Upper Peninsula Citizens' Advisory Council to meet May 20 in Iron River - The Department of Natural Resources' Western Upper Peninsula Citizens' Advisory Council (CAC) will meet in Houghton County on Monday, May 20, at the Windsor Center Auditorium, located at 612 West Adams St., Iron River.
Michigan Historical Center announces nomination opportunity for outstanding Michigan history teachers - The Michigan Historical Center in Lansing is accepting nominations for the 2013 Odyssey Award for teaching excellence in Michigan history. The nomination deadline is Aug. 2, 2013.

White Water to perform May 19 at Michigan Iron Industry Museum open house - White Water, one of northern Michigan's most popular folk music groups, will perform two concerts at the Michigan Iron Industry Museum in Negaunee during a public open house on Sunday, May 19. The open house will be from noon to 4 p.m., and the White Water performances are scheduled at 1 and 2:30 p.m.
Natural Resources Commission authorizes limited public wolf harvest aimed at managing the state's wolf population - The Michigan Natural Resources Commission (NRC) approved a limited public wolf harvest in three distinct regions of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The decision followed a process of dedicated conversation with the public and experts, along with a thorough review of the pertinent science.
Walker Tavern Historic Site's Farmers Market set to open Memorial Day Weekend - The Walker Tavern Farmers Market will open for the season at the historic site near Brooklyn, Mich., on Sunday, May 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will continue each Sunday through Oct. 6, with the exception of two race weekends at nearby Michigan International Speedway. The market will be open two Fridays, June 14 and Aug. 16, and closed on race days, June 16 and Aug. 18.
Michigan Snowmobile and Trails Advisory Council to Meet May 15 in Lansing - The Michigan Snowmobile and Trails Advisory Council (MSTAC) will hold its regular meeting on Wednesday, May 15, 2013. The meeting will be held at the Department of Natural Resources Parks and Recreation Division, Stevens T. Mason Building, 530 W. Allegan, 3rd floor conference room, in Lansing.
Flocks of turkey fans get dirty for the cause - Recently a group of wild turkey enthusiasts got together to get their hands dirty for turkeys. This group transplanted over 1,000 bare-root crabapple seedlings into large landscaping pots. The transplanted crabapples will then spend the next one to two years in an outdoor fenced-in facility, and will then be transplanted onto public land in northern Michigan as an excellent winter food source for turkeys and other wildlife species.
The birds are back - learn all about them at a 'Beaks and Binoculars' event May 11 - In honor of International Migratory Bird Day, the Department of Natural Resources is hosting Beaks and Binoculars, with a full schedule of programs at DNR visitor centers throughout the state on Saturday, May 11. Learn about the different species of birds that migrate to Michigan each spring, take a guided walk, and learn about the different styles of birdhouses and how to identify different bird calls.
Natural Resources Commission to meet May 8-9 in Roscommon - The Michigan Natural Resources Commission (NRC) will hold its regular monthly meeting over two days, Wednesday and Thursday, May 8-9, at the Ralph A. MacMullan (RAM) Conference Center, 104 Conservation Drive, in Roscommon.
DNR to offer lease rights at May 9 auction - The DNR will offer state-owned oil and gas lease rights to more than 37,000 acres in 17 Michigan counties at a May 9 auction in Lansing. Oil and gas lease auctions have been held regularly in Michigan since the 1920s. Oral bids may be submitted by individuals 18 years old or older, or by a partnership, a corporation, or other legal entity qualified to do business in Michigan. The auction will be held at the Lansing Center, 333 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. Registration of bidders will begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, and continue throughout the auction.
DNR seeks public input on a new General Management Plan for Tippy Dam Recreation Area - The DNR invites the public to take part in an online survey to provide input on the General Management Plan for Tippy Dam Recreation Area in Manistee County.
Plant sale, birding hikes, May 11 at 'Spring Blooms in the Dunes' event at Hoffmaster State Park - The Spring Blooms in the Dunes event in P.J. Hoffmaster State Park at the Gillette Visitor Center in Muskegon will take place on Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sponsored by the Gillette Nature Association, the event will include a native plant sale, children's activities, a special presentation on native plants for birds and special hikes highlighting birds.
Spring turkey season reminders: cooperator patches available, report your harvest - With Michigan's spring turkey season now in full swing, the DNR reminds hunters of two important spring turkey hunting opportunities. Commemorative 2013 Wild Turkey Management Cooperator patches are available from the Michigan Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, and hunters are encouraged to submit their spring turkey harvest information.
DNR to survey anglers in the coming months - As fishing season begins, the Department of Natural Resources reminds anglers that department personnel will be collecting data at lakes, rivers and Great Lakes ports about anglers' fishing experiences this year.
Michigan Historical Center offers free admission on May 11 for Extreme Gardening program - Calling all green thumbs — the Michigan Historical Center is holding a fun family spring event in Lansing on Saturday, May 11, to highlight Extreme Gardening. Come learn the many different ways to grow flowers and plants, and take home your own mini-garden. Michigan Historical Commission to celebrate centennial year on May 8 - On May 8, 2013, the 100th anniversary of its founding, the Michigan Historical Commission will hold its spring meeting in the Commission Room on the fifth floor of the Michigan Historical Center in Lansing. The Commission will launch its Centennial Action Plan, a year-long series of events and initiatives.
