The Salvation Army is offering Energy Assistance Outreach Services in Alpena to address the heating needs of those most vulnerable this winter. Programs are available for a variety of income levels. If you are struggling to pay your monthly bills, set up an appointment with a local caseworker. For more information, call 358-2769. The Alpena Light of Hope Clubhouse, part of Northeast Michigan Community Mental Health, is an organization that provides psychological rehabilitation for adults with mental illness. That includes transitional employment for people who are in various stages of job readiness. The program can provide benefits for both individuals and employers. For more information, call 356-8468. District Health Department No. 4, Alpena Regional Medical Center, the Alpena Cancer Center, and the American Cancer Society are again sponsoring free women's cancer screenings for women under 65 who are uninsured or who have limited coverage and limited income. Appointements are necessary and space is limited. District Health Department No. 4 offers a free breast and cervical screening program for women ages 40-64 who qualify. Insurance is accepted.
